London-based photographer who focuses on men

Sam 3

I have hundreds of pictures of Sam, but here is my last one for now.  Again, he’s wearing Paul Smith.   What I liked about this top was that it was somehow evocative of messing about in boats in the 1920s, and I thought that Sam’s look leant itself particularly well to the glamour of that era.  I can imagine him as a matinee idol!

Sam and I shot a lot of nudes, and what I really liked about our work together was that he defies the common perception of the “sort of” model who does nudes.  He looks more fashion, and I shot him at a time when I was experimenting with shooting nudes to look like fashion editorial.  Of course, nudity in fashion shoots is becoming more and more common, as the boundaries between art and commercial photography become ever more blurred.

You will also see that this shot has been cropped to avoid full frontal nudity, and I think there has only been one image on my blog to date where this has not been the case. People have asked me why I don’t show more peen!  It’s not that I’m averse to frontal nudity, but the problem with posting frontal nudes online is that they can be recontextualised in a way that neither the model nor I intended.

Most models are happy for full nudes to go into my gallery exhibitions or be published in a book, so I’m working on a book of my nudes that will enable me to publish images I don’t show on here.

I’ll be back tomorrow…
